How did Odessa Classics 2018 festival end?

Odessa Classics – the international festival of classical music – ended with a large-scale Open Air concert. This year, world stars such as violinists Maxym Vengerov, Robbie Lakatosh and the incredible Daneil Hope, Austria’s leading pianist Stefan Vladar, the most famous Brazilian-Swiss cellist Antonio Menezes and clarinetist-virtuoso Dmytro Ashkenazi visited Odessa.

The festival lasted 10 days and managed to lull the audience with the concerts of solo performances, charge them with knowledge in the lecture program and surprise them with exhibitions of contemporary art and film screenings. Odessa Classics adheres to strict European standards and this year announced the program six months before the festival, that is why the audience was able to plan their vacations and enjoy quality music.

The main theme of the festival was a new look at the classics: in their programs, the artists offered an unexpected and bold look at classical composers and surprised the audience with virtuoso technique. But a special program of new Ukrainian and European music had also been prepared for the audience, which could be heard in the evenings after the main program. Charity Organization (CO) the Maxym Stepanov Foundation became the main partner and sponsor of the festival, we did everything possible so that world-class stars could come to Ukraine, and our audience could join the pearls of modern classics.

From June 1 to 10, 2018, concerts, master classes, discussions and musical life continued in Odessa. The festival ended with a large-scale Open Air concert on the Potemkin Stairs right in the city center. A light show was arranged for the audience, and the Berlin Chamber Orchestra accompanied the festival. The founder of the Maxym Stepanov Foundation attended the closing of the festival. He noted that he was very proud to be a part of this festival.

“I am very glad that I had a wonderful destiny to help Oleksiy Botvinov bring the stars of the world music scene to Odessa. I am very proud that Odessa Classics takes place in Odessa region”, Mr. Stepanov emphasized. For more details, see Maxym Stepanov’s speech.
